Meet The "Padma Shri" Awardee Nuclear Scientist From Telangana!

Chandrakant Pithawa, the retired director of the Electronics and instrumentation group of BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) in Mumbai is one of the most distinguished scientists in the country. He is recognized as the foremost expert on Nuclear instrumentation employed in the Nuclear power plants of the country.

He even veered away from Nuclear instrumentation for a short while to take part in an interesting project. He was part of the Nirbhaya device project that came up with an innovative GPS streaming device that sends out a distress signal. Girls who carry it can hook it up to their mobile devices via bluetooth and in times of distress, just push the button on it to send a distress call. This device also throws up a GPS signal to help locate the girl in distress.

Post retirement, he was given the Raja Ramanna Fellowship for BARC & ECIL. This is a high responsibility fellowship which was established with the sole purpose of utilizing the services of the country's leading researchers.
