Bollywood is India's biggest film making industry. In recent times Bollywood may have faced immense competition with regional films upping the game and expanding their markets. However, it remains to this day, the industry with the maximum reach worldwide. Regional films too occasionally make their mark. One such regional micro-film industry is steadily gaining a strong fan base.
Deccanwood is an up and coming industry that produces films in the Hyderabadi dialect. This all started in 2005 with 'The Angrez'. The comedy film released in just four theaters in Hyderabad and added more and more theaters as word of mouth brought in people in droves. Since then this Hindi-Urdu micro film industry has been getting recognition across the country. The movies they make are purely slapstick comedy with bits of slice-of-life drama. The talent in these movies is usually, local talent who portray an accurate representation of life in the Old City. These movies are also shot with proper production values to give a neat rounded output.
This just goes to show that if your film has an original voice, then you will always find yourself an audience no matter how small your budget is.
PS: Happy days fame, Nikhil Siddhartha, also made his screen debut in Deccanwood. Not one to forget his roots, he got his Deccanwood co-star Mast Ali to star with him in Tollywood as well.
