Our first reaction to any physically challenged person is usually sympathy, which amounts to nothing anyway. Particularly in the case of the visually challenged. Along with the sympathy comes the social marginalization and difficult odds in career. While we do not appreciate the privilege we enjoy, these kids are untouched by the ugliness of the world. And keeping them the way that they are, Devnar Foundation For The Blind, strives to empowers, educates and encourages visually challenged children. And they have indeed succeeded in that over the years.
Located in Hyderabad, Devnar Foundation aims to bring equal opportunities for the visually challenged in this society through advanced learning and international standards in terms of teaching and personal development.
And this is no tall claim! They probably have better academic and educational processes than any average school in the country.
I mean they have Electronic Braille Writers so that they will not have to depend on scribes to write their examinations. They also have a braille printer.
Science Lab: Devnar Science Lab has more than 50 tactile science models that are relevant to their syllabus
Library Digital and Braille: So the students can either access information in form of sound or read in the braille script!
Softwares and devices that make reading easier for those with low or zero visibility and just too many more to even list!
They also have courses for extra-curricular activities like their dance school, candle making amongst others.
After all this you must think it might be an extremely expensive affair to admit children here. But NO!
In Devnar School, education, boarding and lodging are absolutely free and any Visually Challenged child is admitted during any part of the year.
Founded 23 years ago, as a small rented room with 4 students in it, Devnar Foundation has indeed grown as a beacon of light for those kids who otherwise would be shunned by the "able" society. Devnar indeed makes it possible for these individuals to claim equal if not better opportunities in the race for making it big.
Devnar Foundation has already furthered its efforts by starting Sai Junior College. Inaugurated on 5th August 2009, it provides free education and computer training with free hostel facilities to the students.
Chai Bisket salutes Devnar Foundation for giving these children the life that they deserve. If you would like to donate, or be of any help, go here!
