Vizagites will soon have the facility to watch a film with out stepping out of their car and even order anything to eat sitting in their car itself. The city is going to have its first drive-in theater.
A drive-in theater is a form of cinema structure consisting of a large outdoor movie screen, a projection booth, a concession stand and a large parking area for automobiles. Within this enclosed area, customers can view movies from the privacy and comfort of their cars. Some drive-ins have small playgrounds for children and a few picnic tables or benches.
In India only Ahmadabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have drive-in theaters. This Drive-in theater is coming up in Sheelanagar near Vishakapatnam Airport. 90% works of this facility are complete and will be very soon inaugurated by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. This theater will screen First Show at 7 pm and Second Show at 10 pm every day with a ticket fare of Rs 80.
The drive-in is being constructed in an area of 2 acres and having the space of 100 cars. The screen has the width of 90 feet and height of 40 feet. From the distance of 250 feet the screen can viewed clearly. The whole equipment has been brought in from California. The audio of the film will emerge out of the FM Radio of the car. The facility has a container theater with 220 seats for patrons with no car and 324 seats set up as an open theater. Container theater will screen four shows. The facility compound will also have a restaurant and play area for kids.
