Finally Andhra Pradesh got its first cashless village. Dwarapudi in Vizianagaram district has been declared as the first 'Digital Transactions Enabled Model Village' in AP, which is the one of the three villages adopted by Union Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju other two are Mugada and Saripally villages.
Dwarapudi is also a 100 percent literate village. This was made possible thanks to the efforts of 6 students of standards 6, 7 and 8. The children were trained on how to teach illiterate adults with the help of prepared Telugu material.
Simplified teaching material with a thrust on single letter, words and small sentences by using all the 56 letters in Telugu language helped ‘Chitti Guruvulu’ in making some 280 identified adult illiterates into literates at Dwarapudi. Besides achieving total literacy, the village has become free of open defecation, has total prohibition and basic infrastructure, and does cashless transactions at its 13 Kirana shops, two tailoring centers, one saloon and a Fair Price shop.
Earlier Dwarapudi had gained nation wide fame for being a liquor-free village and adopting Solar power, which is being used by the villagers and this has helped in lower consumption of electricity supplied by the Government run utility.
