Women’s Cricket seemed to have been regaining its glory lately in the last few years. Although, the attention it gets is nowhere close to that of the men’s, the women are indeed claiming and commanding the spotlight and rightfully so! Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, is leading the team to successes one after another. Although her roots are from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Mithali is indeed a Hyderabadi by heart having practically lived all her life here. Here’s why we think she is pretty badass besides being the captain of the Indian Team!
When she began playing, she was only 10, making her familiar with the game for more than 2 decades. She began to consider Cricket as a profession when she was only 13!
She got a Padma Sri and Arjuna Award, two highest civilian awards in India, already at this fairly early stage of her career.
She nurtured an interest towards classical dance for eight years before cricket took over her life. She had to leave behind dance to pursue cricket.
Her debut was deemed a Golden Debut with her opening the innings and scoring 114 as India went on to win that match comfortably.

She is only the second person to achieve 5000 runs in ODI women cricket.
Her double century is only the fifth in the history of Women’s Test Cricket.
She starred as the World No.1 Cricketer in the ODI chart among women in the last World Cup.
