The next time you feel the urge to throw away a half finished water bottle think of these:
1. The average rainfall in Telangana region decreased 47% in 2014 while 12 districts of Andhra Pradesh faced deficient rainfall the same year.
2. Ground water is depreciating at the rate of approximately 0.5 meters every year in these two sister states.
3. Every district in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions have recorded nitrate (>45) contamination as recorded by Central Ground Water Board. Indeed a dire situation, which calls for more careful usage of clean water.
4. Functionality of drinking water in the schools of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is below the national average.
5. In the 1,20,21,541 households in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, only 96813 households have been found to have access to tap water. (Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation)
6. AP & TG regions have recorded the highest deaths due to water-borne diseases in 2013.
As bad as the statistics may seem, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sanitation is improving in the two states and the Governments are working towards better and hygienic water supply to the public. There is still hope. So let’s celebrate water! Please don't waste Water!
