14 Weekend Getaways from Hyderabad!

Hectic schedules we have, week in and week out. Busy as bees, with our jobs and studies and other responsibilities. “Arrey, time ich nai milta yaaro!”, as we say in Hyderabad. Are we really living our lives? A loud truck horn stirs us from our philosophical trance, back into reality. “Maaki!”, Kshitij yells. He’s still getting used to the city. Poor guy. “Mere saath nai hora mama… Chal kahi ghoomne chalte hai weekend pe!”, I suggest. Suddenly, everyone’s excited! We put our chai aside and start discussing various places within 200 km of the city for a kirraak weekend getaway! We’re sharing some of them with you below. About 60 km from Warangal and about 200 km from Hyderabad, this lake is among the most beautiful lakes in South India.

This reservoir is located approximately 110 km from Hyderabad, 15 km from Medak town on the Medak-Yellareddy road. A nice drive (car/bike) of 100 km on the Hyderabad-Narsapur-Medak road takes you to Medak town. A nice place to have a picnic, or to go camping with a gang of friends. You can go play in the water too, but it’s muddy/thorny at some places.

You will find this on your right, 90 km down the Mumbai highway. This place is also a crocodile sanctuary. Hundreds of crocodiles bathing in the hot sun is really worth the trip. Also, it is from here that half of Hyderabad gets water.

About 70 km from Warangal; so about 220 km from Hyderabad. Amazing place, with a 160 m hanging bridge across it!

Stretches across the Peddavagu, a minor tributary of the Krishna River. The western stretch of this picturesque reservoir is surrounded by high hills, making it a beautiful spot and is the perfect place to be during sunrise and sunset. 133 km from Hyderabad on the Bengaluru highway.

It is said to be the highest waterfall in Telangana. Set amid the Sahayadri mountain range in Adilabad, it presents a wonderful scenery with its white waters. Through the dense forests, the river Kadam flows and tumbles, gushing at Kuntala from a height of 45 meters.

It is unique and different from other waterfalls. Situated amidst dense forests, this waterfall offers an exhilarating experience to the city visitor.

Located in Guntur district, is a well known beach with a wide and spacious shore. Here, the waters of the Bay of Bengal are crystal blue and offer a soothing calmness. It is quite popular as it is the nearest beach from Hyderabad. Frequent buses are available from Guntur to Bapatla, where this beach is situated.

The beach adjacent to Suryalanka, it is equally scenic but less crowded.

Another popular spot, near the Nagarjunasagar dam. Ethipotala falls is a 70 ft high cascade, on the river Chandravanka. The course of the river Chandravanka after the falls is also very beautiful, flowing through an amazing canyon. The base of the waterfall is a crocodile breeding centre, so obviously you can’t get into the water.

Anantagiri is often referred to as the 'Ooty of Andhra Pradesh'. It is the place where the river Musi originates. It’s about 100 kms on the Hyderabad-Vikarabad-Tandur route. There is Telangana Tourism’s Haritha Resort for accommodation and food facilities.

The largest undisturbed tiger reserve in India and the only one in Telangana. The only accommodation facility in near the Srisailam temple. Located 58 km from Srisailam is the Mallela Theertham waterfall, which is an awesome place to chill.

130 Kilometers from Hyderabad. This fort in Karnataka’s Bidar district is a beautiful creation from red rock, and is surrounded by a triple-moated wall.

Also called Bhuvanagiri, a town 48 km from Hyderabad. Bhongir is famous for its fort, which became prominent during the Kakatiya rule. The fort was built on an isolated monolithic rock.
